Harold F. Leeper, M.D., Ph.D., received his A.B. and M.A. from the
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and his Ph.D. from the
Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA. Following a postdoctoral
research fellowship in retinal physiology at the University of
California, San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Leeper was on the faculty of UCSF
until be entered the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY,
from which he received his M.D. in 1985. Dr. Leeper completed his
transitional internship at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, and his
residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of
Medicine. Upon completion of his residency training, Dr. Leeper
joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology,
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he was Director of
the General and Consultative Ophthalmology Service, Director of Visual
Testing, and Director of Ophthalmology Emergency Services, Eye &
Ear Hospital. Dr. Leeper joined The Wheeling Clinic in January
1991 were he developed an active practice in retinal disease,
eventually becoming Chairman of the Board of the Wheeling Clinic.
In July 2000, Dr. Leeper established his solo private practice in
ophthalmology with particular interest in retinal disease such as
diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Dr. Leeper is
certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American
Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology. Dr. Leeper was elected for membership in Alpha
Omega Alpha, the medical honor society, and Sigma Xi, the research
honor society. He is a member of Fight for Sight, the Association
for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the New York Academy of
Sciences, and Research to Prevent Blindness. He has published
numerous scientific articles and book chapters based on his original
research as well as clinical research. In 1994 Dr. Leeper was named
West Virginia Clinician of the Year by the American Diabetes
Association.
